We had a memorable trip to Newcastle with Exceeding Power for the Northumberland Vase on Saturday. Unfortunately he didn’t last out the gruelling 2 miles on the sun beaten surface but he showed a good account of himself to the mile and a half, his ideal distance! We had to give him a try over the extended distance as we don’t have many choices on the all weather for a horse of his ratings - top handicap races. The surface was riding dead making it tougher to stay and many horses throughout the day found it hard work. Exceeding Power has come out of the race well but with no suitable races until the end of August early September he is now on a short holiday! We had three days at Newcastle and the whole experience was fascinating with the buzz of the crowds (waiting for Madness to play) and an honour to be at a prestigious meeting with such accommodating people. A credit to Newcastle.
