Nawar had a stressful time at Sandown with our jockey, Franny Norton stuck in traffic on the M25! Our standby jockey Sean Levey had to wait until 15 min pre-race until he could weigh out for the saddle to go on Nawar. Meanwhile all the horses had left the pre-parade ring leaving us on our own and by the time our Team had the saddle he was at the point of boiling over! He was taken to one of the saddling boxes to get him ready and whilst in there he scrapped the floor continuously, spreading the floor dust everywhere, over our Team and particularly over himself looking like a pit pony! All he wanted was to get on with his race and his competitors had left him behind. He is a very talented horse, such a 'baby' and sensitive with it..... he has wonderful owners who will be patient and give him the time needed.
And the mishaps didn't end there!
On arrival at the start, one of his competitors lost a shoe .... more delays and anxiety for Nawar whilst the farrier went to work. Finally they got the race on its way with a good break from the stalls for Nawar, sitting in 5th of the 14 runners. Three furlongs out we made our move, two out we were in third but then the stamina ran out on the rising hill taking him back 8 1/2 lengths behind the winner..... finish position (11th) was disappointing but a good run to the final furlong. Sean Levey was very complementary about him and gave him a super ride. The handicapper has taken into account how he ran and not where he finished, leaving him on his mark of 70!
