Friday 10th April 2020
Racing came to a halt on 18th March and our industry leaders decided to suspend until the end of April. Next week they will be reviewing the plans to resume racing in the light of the lock down restrictions.
Providing the government agree, it has been mentioned that the ‘racing powers’ would like to race behind closed doors at Lingfield and Newcastle and use their hotels to isolate in. They believe they could operate racing with just 100 people at any one meeting which would include racing staff, BHA staff and racecourse staff. The field sizes will be kept to a minimum. If this plan becomes reality it will be interesting to see how they will keep staff to a minimum of 100 to operate a days racing effectively. There are many horses waiting to run and this plan will only accommodate a few!
Meanwhile, the horses at Bowstridge Farm are content in their current routine and have no idea that we are currently in ‘lockdown’. They are getting plenty of fresh air and welcomed sunshine.
Happy Easter everyone and stay safe.
