Kirsten SmithKirsten Smith - Our Apprentice Jockey had her first 2nd from just a handful of rides in April looking competent in a 0-10 apprentice race at Kempton on Ocean of Peace.

Kirsten has a very important role with us ensuring the yard operation runs smoothly, checking medicals, assisting with the feeding operation and organising the racing tack.  Kirsten has been with us since she was eight years of age so she knows our system well!  Also ridden in amateur races - two rides in Arab races finishing 3rd and 5th and one ride under rules in a 5f race at Leicester.  At the age of 14 she rode in 3 pony races and gained further experience riding arab racing ponies in 2008.  Whilst at school she represented her county in lacros and and competed in the South West of England swimming finals.  Goal for 2010/11 is to gain as much experience as possible in apprentice races and gain that first winner.

Zac BakerZac Baker - Our Amateur Jockey has recently ridden his first two winners in two Men's Open Point to Points from just a handful of rides. In April he rode in his first amateur flat race, over 6f where he finished 5th, only beaten a length and a half, his first outside ride.

He is the brother of George Baker, a leading flat jockey who has ridden numerous winners for the stable and would like to follow in his foot steps but jump racing!  Zac left school in the summer of 2010 and previous to leaving school he spent every weekend and holidays with us since he was 12 years of age.

Since moving to Bowstridge Farm, Zac has become a very polished Amateur Jockey with plans to ride in NH races - under rules in 2011. He has been able to ride a finish on Muppet since he was 13 (the mechanical stable equisizer) as well as any licensed jockey!  Just completed his NVQ 2 at the age of 16.

Richard Leadley with TopthornCorey Jones recently joined us as our Conditional Jockey.  At the age of 18 he has already had two rides in NH Flat races for Trainers based in the North of England.  He worked for Nicky Henderson at the age of 15 and then moved back home to work for Alan Swinbank for the next 2 1/2 years.  Having gained experience in larger stables he now looks forward to riding in races for us and helping prepare the youngsters here for their debut races in the Autumn onwards.

Shane Van Beek has been with us since November 2010 as a Trainee Work Rider.  Hopes to further his knowledge by taking his NVQ 2 & 3 in due course.   Shane rode poines in Zimbawe but only started riding racehorses in January 2010 when he worked for G Blake.  He is a keen member of our team with aspirations of one day riding in an amateur race on the flat.  It has always been his dream to work with racehorses.

Michelle Smith has been with us voluntarily for nine years on her days off as an entrepreneur.  She has been a valuable member of the team assisting us as a work rider, groom, driver and admin assistant.

Andy Thorpe has designed and operates the office software for the team, which has minimised the workload and ensuring a smooth, efficient running of the stable and office operations.
